As being the third committee of the United Nations General Assembly, SOCHUM deals with the agenda items relating to a range of social, humanitarian affairs and human rights issues that affect people all over the world. An important part of the work of the Committee focuses on the examination of human rights questions. The committee also addresses important social development questions by being in cooperation with United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) and Economic and Social Committee (ECOSOC).
In BSBLMUN’19, delegates of the SOCHUM committee will be trying to find solutions for preventing the child labour, expoitation and abuse of children occuring in both agriculture and modern societies. Also, the delegates will be discussing on new commitments to reduce plastic pollution and supporting the transition to a more circular economy. Delegates are expected to find feasible and beneficial solutions to the agenda items.
The Committee is recommended for first timers and delegates who has low experience. The SOCHUM Committee will be following the Harvard procedure.
